    Yes it very likely is, I can't do much about the stress though so I'm hopeful the polytar will be helpful.

    I don't know whether it would help the original poster but i have had success using bodyshop ginger shampoo, its been over a year now and i no longer have flakes,
    the bodyshop are usually happy to give you a little sample to try so it might be worth a shot for anyone with a scalp problem (i had what my hairdresser called cradle cap and with perseverance it has almost cleared up)
