As indicated in post#9, the whole of that £5 deposit is refundable.
Confirmed on TfL's website:When you get a new Oyster card, you'll need to pay a £5 deposit. If you decide you don't need it anymore, return your Oyster card to us and we'll refund your deposit.0 -

The TVMs can give refunds upto £10, with a member of staff available to assist if required.0
