Unable to get a mortgage

My partner and I are struggling to get a mortgage at the moment. We stupidly took out some payday loans recently, apart from that we have a couple of missed payments on our credit files from around a year ago but nothing else. Most standard mortgage brokers have fairly flatly said they can't do anything for us.
Where is a good place to look for specialist mortgage advice as I'm really struggling to find anyone willing to even look at it for us?
How long do we need to wait before missed payments and payday loans cease to be such a problem? any advice at all would be welcome.

A month clear is probably the minimum, but it depends on many different things. Some lenders do not care, others take a view and others will outirhgt decline.

If you needed payday loans sp recently how much is your deposit0

we got the payday loans instead of getting a credit card as we though (stupidly I know) that they would help our credit rating more. our deposit is about £12000 at the moment and we would be looking to make it a 10% one.0
