It can actually be done for £44.80 but you may not like starting your outward journey at 06:10am.
When using 'Advance Singles' you must travel on the booked trains.

Cross-country trains app. Two singles is cheaper than the return, and buying a single to Norwich and a single from Norwich to Sherringham is cheaper still. I got the price down to about £50 for two adults. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

Have you tried Train Split to see if it picks up anywhere unusual to split your tickets?

I don't usually have to comment on wealdroam's advice, but it looks to me like he has quoted £44.80 which is the ADVANCE SINGLE fare for two people, so the round trip is £89.60.
trainsplit.com gives that as the best deal. The advance fare seems to be available at hourly intervals in each direction. Of course once you have chosen, you do have to travel on the specific East Midlands train which you have booked.
I looked it up on the Greater Anglia website as well, same results, although the number of available tickets is down to single figures, so book soon to get this price.0 -

Or for the early start:
As you say, Trainsplit offers nothing better.0 -
