Re-registering mainland car in NI

Hi folks,

My daughter purchased her car when living in England, and is now back home in NI.
The car will be three years old in September, and we expect that MOT will be required as it is an english registration.
I can't find anything in DVANI about registering an english car in NI, although it appears you can do the reverse for no fee.
Any idea how to go about it? Would like to get it sorted so MOT is put off for another year.

TIA
Les

so far as I know, you no longer re-register as it's all done by the DVLA in Swansea. So send in the V5 with the change of address to one over here, then wait until next year for the first MOT, which will be through DVANI.
It's simpler since the DVLA took over most of it.

Why does it need to be Reregistered I would think when she changes her Address DVA will then send her the reminders for Mot and so on

I don't think I would rely on getting a notice for a first MOT... I don't think I've ever seen one. Second one onwards, yes, but the first one they seem to leave it up to you to remember.

    Thanks for the replies folks,

The car has been registered to her home address in NI since the start, but was registered by the garage she bought if from in England and has an English number plate.

I'm assuming that because it has an English number, that an MOT will be due after 3 years.

If they don't send a reminder, it gets tricky; website doesn't show when an MOT will be required,,,,

No, that's not how it works. My current car was re-registered, a few years back. Unless you filled in an application for a new registration mark, you kept the old one. So I have a NI registered car (now irrelevant) with English style plates. First MOT was due around the time I registered under English rules, but I actually did the first MOT a year later under NI rules. Reregistering at that point in time was as simple as buying a local tax disk. We don't do that anymore, either...

The test is due when your vehicle is 4 years old and can be carried out no more than 28 days before the 4th anniversary of initial registration (unless it was previously tested in England). There's nothing about how late you can do it, that I can see, I guess they don't want to encourage people in brinkmanship.

<edit> you could try looking at the MOT status online... I don't know if that will tell you when it's due for a vehicle which hasn't been previously tested, though...

I've tried the MOT status, it doesn't indicate when MOT is due.

    I guess I'll give them a call.
