Might be worth looking into something like this... http://sussexrokx.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/day-clock-for-people-with-dementia.html you might be able to pick up a digital photoframe second hand from ebay. I wonder if tablets could do this too.0

Yes they can..
There is a day clock app that's free to download. It's also possible to add messages via google calendar.
I wasn't sure if it was ok to keep a tablet plugged into the electricity all the time.

I don't think you can use these to make phone calls (yet) - but they might be able to call between different Alexa devices
Worth saying you can get a reconditioned one for £39.99 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Amazon-Echo-Dot-Generation-Black-x/dp/B01DFKBKP0/0 -
You can make phone calls, send texts etc from the echo, I use the mastermind app but it is quite fiddly.
I think they now have an intercom function so if you both have one....0 -

All of these functions are 'coming soon' to the Echo / Dot but only fully working in the USA still - that is without doing anything techie to make them work.0 -

I like the idea of being able to give a command to phone someone is that possible on either device?
I will take a look at the FB page it might give me some ideas.
thanks for the input.

The phone thing isn't working here in the UK yet. 'Coming soon' although the real techie people have done 'things' with hubs etc.
TP-links work over wife via the KASA app, but when linked to the Echo / Dot then work with voice controls. I use them to switch on and off lamps and sockets. They can be scheduled, for instance I have the upstairs TV and PVR switch on to standby at 7.00p.m. so that programmes can be recorded and then off again at midnight.
I'm a un-techie woman in her 60s and find this simple and extremely useful.
Hope it helps.0 -

I don't think they are a complete 'package' for people with alzheimers, but it's a step in the right direction. I find the numerous 'skills' a pain to use because some of them feel un-natural.
I'm pretty sure Google Home is going to surpass it eventually - their AI is massively superior.0 -

Mastermind is currently in Closed Beta
And the reviews are terrible! Maybe because it's still in Beta mode?0
