    Surely it is tmost likely to be tax due on a partnership business?

    But where in the OP does it say they have a business????

    "partner" is mentioned, but reading with context suggest most likely romantic partner... you know... like husband/wife/significant other etc.

    At the end of the day it does not really matter, particularly as the op as not come back. I was agreeing with you that the debt was unlikely to be for PAYE, given the amount, and even less likely to be additional tax due on dividends. That only leaves business taxes where no tax payments are deducted at source and, as both have HMRC debts, it is most likely to be in a business partnership. If the op comes back to clarify we will be in a better position to explore the options which, in my experience, HMRC may consider.
