SLL account with no credit file entry - been given a settlement offer - help!

Hi, just looking for some information relating to an old Sunny debt. They sold it on to SLL Capital and marked the account as “closed” on my credit file without defaulting the account.

SLL haven’t updated my credit file with a new entry or default, but I’ve been making payments to them. They’ve just offered me a 50% discount to settle the debt over the next two months – if I do this, do you think they’ll just close the account without making a new credit entry that says the debt was defaulted/partially settled? I don’t really want to ask them in case it was an oversight on their part, resulting in them then making an entry on my credit file!

    Hi,

If the account has not been defaulted I see no reason why they should do so now.

In order to register a default, they must send you a default notice, this is a document that usually gives you 14 days to bring your account up to date, otherwise a default will be registered on your credit file.

What would be the point of doing all that if you were settling the account ?

  • That makes sense - I think I just presumed they'd be somewhat vindictive if I wasn't repaying the full amount (even though they would have acquired it at a reduced rate anyways).

    Thank you!
