Hi. I have just found out that I have a debt outstanding on my credit file which I am payin off in full. How can I get this removed from my credit file as I am applying for a mortgage next year? Thank you for your help

You can't if it is a legitimate debt.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
  • Oh really? So if it's paid off in full I still can't get it removed? Is there nothing I can do? If it's been settled will the mortgage companies still lend? Thank you

Your credit history shows the history of your credit. You can't just remove things.

A mortgage lender will be looking at much more than a single settled debt.

Once you have settled the debt it will drop off your credit file six years (5 in Scotland) later.
