I have often wondered what happens to all these used mattresses - there must be many people who do not like them and take advantage of the trial period to return them.
Some are given to charity shops- I've seen them in bulk. I don't know if that is the same for all and I think trading standards wouldstop anything being resold without a hyper clean first so I'm not personally worried about anything. I don't think they can resell so easily though when they all seem to arrive the size of a house brick and take a few hours to expand to full size. They can't squeeze them back down because they'd risk damaging the spings even if they had the machinary to do that.

Lots are given to homeless charities too. They are cleaned if necessary (some have removable cover) or bits replaced I think.

That's good to know - it would be a shocking waste for them to end up at the local tip.

We got the Hyde and Sleep mattress and I LOVE it. It's definitely warmer than I was used to but with a cool cotton mattress protector and sheet it's great. Genuinely don't want to get out of it in the morning.

I ended up with a "regular" mattress but it's still warmer than I'm used to. Any recommendations for a cool mattress protector? Do these really work?

Just thought I'd post/update- there are some really great comparison reviews on YouTube. I can't remember who suggested that I look but they have been really helpful.

What has also been helpful is knowing how the 10 year warranty works in reality. What it means is not that the mattress will be good as new when you get to 10 years but that it will show what they define as normal wear and tear and dipping after 10 years.

When it was shown that a dip of x cm is expected (can't remember the number!) and what that looked like, it really did make me think twice about the guarantee holding any real meaning.
I wouldn't expect any mattress to show no wear-and-tear after 10 or even 5 years, but the degree to which the companies choose to ignore it just makes me think twice.

Worth a look for anyone thinking about it anyway.
  • Please try new mattress pad before changing Mattress.

see if this works for you

wont fit my sheets if I do that (my mattress is from Ikea and so is around 10 cm longer than a UK mattress and so my UK bed sheets). It actually bows in the middle quite considerably so any mattress pad would need to be very dense and not flexible to work, I think my back may have arguments with this!

That's terrible. I'd never try it
