Universal Credit/Short Term Advance

Hello everyone,

Sorry of this is in the wrong place,still getting used to the site.

I have applied for universal credit,I am still waiting confirmation of my first meeting at the job centre.

Do I need to wait for this first appointment before applying for a short term advance ?

According to Citizen's Advice you ask for the short term advance at your first interview at the Job Centre>

A benefit advance will only generally be agreed once they are certain you have entitlement to benefit. It may be that they need to gather evidence at the interview to confirm that. If you're in genuine financial difficulty now you could try calling and asking about an advance before the interview. The worst they can say is 'No'.
