Asthma and apple juice

I've recently developed asthma (still awaiting some tests but 90% sure) and remembered reading that apple juice may help prevent attacks. I also saw a doctor on television once say it was a magic drink for asthma sufferers as it clears the airways?
Anyway, I read a little more on the internet last night and found out that cloudy apple juice is meant to be best, followed by normal apple juice. Eating real apples doesnt seem to have the same effect. So i went to Lidl this morning and bought their 100% cloudy apple juice. I have to say I think it has worked slightly already but maybe thats because I want it too lol
Has any other asthma sufferer drank apple juice regularly and has it had an effect on your symptoms?

Consumption of apples and fish during pregnancy may have a protective effect against the development of childhood asthma and allergic disease.
Childhood asthma and fruit consumption. suggests Drinking apple juice from concentrate at least once a day, & eating bananas at least once a day may protect against wheezing in children.

If this is true then it would do great for the children and in the most of the asthma cases I have witnessed the initiation have been from the childhood period. I have also seen in many other discussion places asthma sufferers discussing about the chronic nature of the problem when they are in their middle ages. So if drinking these juices can take care of the problem what more can we ask for? This was not known to me, so am more than happy to get richer with information from a money saving discussion place.0

I'm happy to try it out and my children love apple juice so it wont hurt them. I'm sure its not a magic cure, but I hope more people hear about it and give it a go.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

Hi Tiff,
Hope you're ok.
I've had asthma since childhood but I've always had it under control and don't need the inhalers unless some other illness comes along.
I would say if it could work, give it a go. Most GP's have an asthma clinic thesedays so the nurse may know or have other suggestions.
I've always found that exercise is the best thing (not for serious asthma thouhg, you need specialist help from your GP on that) as it builds up your lung capacity.
You can even get breathers that help with this.
I saw something on the Bodykind site recently called a saltpipe that suggest it helps. Don't know if thats any use to you??? Thats says it makes you cough a lot though at first so don't try it until your are on your inhalers or it will make your asthma worse.
Have you had a look to see if it's mentioned on Netdoctor or something similiar?

I remember reading about this a couple of months ago:
Apple juice and bananas may cut childhood wheeze

Apple juice, not apples, reduces wheeze
Children between five and 10 years of age may be less likely to suffer from wheeze if they drink apple juice or eat bananas at least once a day, a recent study funded by the Department of Health suggests (European Respiratory Journal 2007;29:1161).
Researchers from Imperial College London gathered information about fruit consumption and asthma symptoms in 2,640 primary school children by means of a questionnaire. They found no link between eating fresh apples and asthma symptoms. However, they found that children who consumed apple juice from concentrate each day — compared with less than monthly — were less likely to have a current wheeze (odds ratio 0.53, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.34–0.83; P=0.003). Eating bananas at least once a day was negatively associated with current wheeze (0.66, CI 0.44–1.00; no P-values stated) and ever having had wheeze (0.69, CI 0.50–0.95) compared with consuming the fruit less than once a month.
There was no association found between consumption of fresh fruits or fruit juices and having a diagnosis of asthma.

I used a saltpipe soon after I was diagnosed. I stopped using it after a few months as the novelty had worn off and I'm still not sure if it helped at all although you do read that some people swear by it. It's great if it works for some people although I fund it a bit time comsuming and it made my lips dry.:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0
