I like their olive oil; that's a good price for 750ml; I may stock up.

Lidl used to be a great shop for poorer people to get all the foodstuffs they needed at low prices. Then they started to chase the middle class pound and shelves of beans were cleared to create space for lobsters, deluxe ranges and the "latest must have" food fads and trends.

The offers are how they attract those middle classes through their doors, so they can sell them goodies from the bakery departments and wine aisles, as well as a cheeky lobster.

    They couldn't give a stuff that we'd like a 50p cauliflower.

Definitely not the middle classes taking the wine 6 cases at a time the other week - looked more like someone buying it cheap to sell on.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

It's a business. It exists to make profits. There are much higher margins on lobster than baked beans. The profit on the Deluxe range cross-subsidises the basic ranges, and without it the prices on the basic ranges would rise.

    Got some at around 10.00am.

Had to fight off some Cornish Tin Miners with a baguette first though.
