Unfair decision advice plz

I will keep this as short as possible, A week ago each employee was asked to see the GM, We were told that the company were increasing our bonus rate by £1 a hour, across the 3 depts which are required to carry out the work. In one dept there are 4 in the other there are 4 and the other there are 2. The dept with the 2 in earn serious money in bonus which is calculated on a time saved basis basically each job has hours on the job all different for each dept yet the dept that the 2 employees are in are making some weeks 100 hours plus just on bonus. The other 2 depts one of which im in cannot make bonus due to the nature of the job and what is involved on average most of us make 35 hrs pw leaving a 5 hour gap before we even make anything. We are paid for the 40 hours on our normal hourly rate. We have worked it out that by putting another £1 on the bonus rate the 2 earning bonus will see approx another £8k a year between them we however in the other depts wont see hardly anything.
It has now become apparent that one of the 2 earning bonus said they had been offered another job and this was the reason the management made this knee jerk reaction. Weve asked why they couldnt put some on everyones hourly rate which they said they couldnt and we have all tried to make the management see what they have done, we have not had a wage increase now for many years and this now really has upset the apple cart, each dept is skilled and they couldnt do our job and we couldnt do theirs and the job would not be done without all 3 depts.

    Life is unfair.

Sometimes it is waaay too unfair....

    Practical advice:

Be happy that you are getting paid a wage and/or seek alternative employment.

At the end of the day they will pay people who make the most money, these other dept's I assume make more profit then yours?

No it's not fair, as your department may not even have a chance of earning as much as the others, but that is why you are paid less for the job.

It's the same thing where my Husband works, a girl started and had only been there a few months and recieved over £1000 in bonuses (same as everyone in that department) where my Husband recieves nothing as his dept isn't making money right now as it's fairly new - but even when it does come into profit it won't be anywhere near as much as the other depot.

It might not be fair but it's certainly very normal basis.
People don't know what they want until you show them.
  • Get offered another job yourself; preferably one that pays better. Then either leave and go to it or, if they offer you more money, stay.

Once again, if you can't find another job that pays better then that is why they won't pay you more.
