Impossible to clean Pan!

I bought a German made "Run Alulith-Cast Pan" a while back from a stand in the Ideal Homes Exhibition - at the time I paid in the region of £60-£80 for it - so I expected it to be a quality item.
I have followed the cleaning instructions precisely, but the pan has become so black with carbon build-up that it is impossible to clean and therefore I no longer use it.
Has anybody got this pan..and had the same experience??

As your query isn't Northern Ireland specific I will it over to the Old style board as someone on there may have a similar pan or at least be able to suggest a method for cleaning.

put some boiling water in it and add an amount of white vinegar (trial and error for amount!) and leave to soak. I have heard that they use that method in chinese restaurants (a friends brother works in one) and thats what they use there to clean them off.
Not tried it myself so no promises!!!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT USE IN AN ALUMINIUM PAN - if there is no coating (or holes in the coating from previous cleaning) the acid in either of these things will react with the aluminium and eat away the pan itself! I'd try the washing powder - that should be ok as it is an alkali.0 -
When you say 'cast' is that iron or aluminium? Either will naturally turn black. If its cast iron, then do not use detergents on it as that coating is what helps it become non stick. I love my cast iron pans, but especially the really old ones that are totally black and shiney!0
