Advice needed - work bonus

Hi, I'm new around here but after some quick advice if possible.

I'm just handed my notice in and I'm starting a new job in August. At my current employer, we get an annual 7-10% bonus dependent on performance through the financial year (June - May). Do I have any chance of receiving that bonus payment as I worked the full 12 months with this employer or will it be written off?

I don't hold out much hope but just seeing if anyone had any experience of this and what potentially my approach should be when speaking to my HR dept (I'm currently checking my original contract for wording).

Thanks!

When would it normally be paid? Usually you have to still be in employment to get a bonus even if you earned it in the period, but what's in your contract. We can only offer 'usually' without your contract.
  • Thanks for the reply @marliepanda - it is normally paid in the August payment run...so the one after I leave :(

Just checking through my contract right now...

The 'norm' is that you still need to be employed by the company on the date the bonus becomes payable. I worked for DWP for several years and it was standard practice for redundancies to take effect on the 30th June, and bonus payment to be made only to those employed on 1st July.

Your contract might have a different clause but it usually requires you to be employed on the date it is paid. You need to talk to your manager and HR to see if they can help.
