Thanks guys....talk went well. We are going to help with getting the wolf from the door so-to-speak and he in return has to be more open and responsible for his actions, no more loans or phone contracts, blah blah. Usual mum/dad lecture. He is lucky to have a good job with a decent income for a 20year old, hope this makes him sit up and take stock of how close he came to being up the creek without a paddle.

It was only by chance that i mentioned his problem with debt to a friend of mine and she recommended this site, i am very grateful it has been very reassuring. A problem shared and all that.

Found the 'claiming bank charges letter' and have fired that off to Abbey for him too. Bank charges amount to approx £1400, several times being charged £35.00 for going over under £1.00, hardly proportionate. His wages go into his bank every Thursday so he has never been more than 7 days over his limit. Not expecting to hear in a hurry but started the ball rolling anyway.

Make him the one to send these letters off. Advise him by all means but make him be the one doing.

Tell him what to do and check he's done it, but don't you do it all for him. He must take action for his own mistakes. Tough love!!!
