NHS Dental - should I pay for band 3 twice?

Hello, I have a question regarding NHS Dental - I just had two root canals done and now I have been informed by my dentist that I will need crowns as well as a night mouth guard for teeth grinding, both of these things fall into NHS Charge Band 3 (£244.30), but my dentist says that I will have to pay this charge twice (once for crowns and root canals that were done and then another £244.30 for mouth guard). Is this right? I was under assumption that once you receive all your necessary treatment - you pay whatever Charge Band it falls into once. Just trying to understand this so I don't end up being ripped off :)

If it is all carried out as one course of treatment then it should be one band three charge.

However many dentists would want to leave root treated teeth a little while before crowning them, to make sure they have settled as root treatment is not guaranteed to work. Depending on the tooth 20% may fail. If this is the case then you may end up paying two charges, one for work done now, another for work done in a few months.
