My favourite cook book is 'More With Less' by Doris Janzen Longacre

really basic recipes and all that I've tried so far have been excellent!:T
  • The St. Michael Freezer Cookery Book is really excellent. It is by Madeline Fraser and was published in 1976. It has all the do's and don'ts of home freezing and an excellent selection of recipes. I have heard it mentioned a few times on this forum and it is often available on 2nd hand booksites for next to nothing.

I think we should bring out our own OS cookery book there are more than enough recipes on here to do it! Not only that we could add in household tips too!

cas clarke is good - does lots of student books and others - alternativley try a bit of 'chuck it in and see' some of my best recipies have come from this method (you need to have some ideas of what goes together as some of my worst menu ideas have also resulted from this)

I agree with Pukkamum. I’m just tucking into Chinese ribs from a recipe off the forum and they are superb.

I find that my ‘favourite’ cookbook changes. I’ve just re-discovered one of my 80’s books ‘The Wholefood Cookbook (cooking the natural way) by Gail Duff. It has some good OS type recipes such as beef with chick peas and using unusual (for when it was written) grains such as bulgur and couscous.

When I finally get a cooker again, I’ve got a couple of books that used to belong to my mother from the 50’s and I’m looking forward to trying some recipes from them.

Don’t forget to create your own recipe book with the dishes you find good.
