I'm a supply teacher on zero hours. I have recently been very ill and in and out of short hospital stays. I do not get paid sick pay. I have a 12 year old and am now facing two weeks with no money..... is there any way around this?

Yes. If you are not entitled to SSP and are signed off sick you should be able to apply for ESA.
ESA can be either....
Contribution based which is paid to eligible people regardless of there personal means
or
Income based, if you have no income and your assets are below a certain level.
After a certain period (13 weeks?) you would be required to attend a medical assessment but initially you just require a normal "sick note" from your doctor.0 -

A) easy to say but not always a choice of jobs like that for everyone
which bit of supply teacher don't you understand - a necessary part of keeping education running unless you want to have. Classes without a teacher whil someone has a baby / is off sick themselves?
Of course the ideal is that while working even on zero-hours - you build up an emergency fundto keep you going through periods without work / ill health. This is the same for most self-employed and many more. But not easy to do.I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!
I do however reserve the right to be correct by accident.0
