Final Demand for payment after we'd started sorting it

Options
Hi everyone,

Moved into a new house in Jan & took all the usual meter readings etc. My wife communicated them to the new utilities provider who took them & opened account.

A few weeks after that we got a daft bill for £250 quid gas for the first month. We contacted utility people again & were assured a real bill was following.

A month back we were contacted by a credit agency looking to get the £250 back. My wife contacted them to explain the situation & they said they'd contact their client.

A week ago we got another letter saying they'd tried to help & were now chasing payment. Again, wife phoned them & explained, and again they understood & said they'd take it up with the client.

Today I've had a final demand from them, saying credit rating people have been contacted. I have an impeccable rating & don't want it to be messed with.

These guys are LCS based in Leeds.

Anyone got advice or dealt with them before?

Thanks - any help greatly appreciated!

You need to make a formal written complaint to the supplier and go from there.

Have you worked out how much the bill should be ? Are the meter readings on the bill correct ?

    Hi there,

I would absolutely agree, that this needs to be done, in writing from now on. Do everything recorded delivery and keep a copy. The more evidence you can include to argue your case, the better. So, if you have proof of when you moved in (the tenancy agreement or start date for the mortgage) then a copy of this may also help because anything that built up before that date clearly cannot be yours.

You can also request more information to help, under a Subject Access Request. You can request copies of phone transcripts, the readings used to calculate the bill and the dates the debt built up from and to etc. They may charge you £10 for this request and they have 40 days to reply but you should stress you want everything put on hold until then (do this to the fuel supplier).

Only accurate information can be recorded on your credit file, so if they do record anything that is inaccurate you will be able to get it removed.
