Vfm4 , Gosh that takes me back ,sewing (by hand of course ) side to middle with my late Mum at one end and me as a 10 year old at the other.
Mum nattering about various things ,normally to do with the lack of stuff in the shops, and when would this blessed rationing be finished for good, and she had heard that there was going to be a shop called Bendix which would have big washing machines in them and you would be able to do a weeks washing in an hour and a half . I can remember queueing to visit this shop with Mum ,us lugging a big sheet tied up with washing to use one of these new-fangled things. When we got home, Mum inspected the washing and said 'Mmm, no where near as good as a proper wash , and she proceeded rewash everything:):).
Everything back in the early 1950s was recycled, and re-used until it fell apart. Her sheets had been wedding presents in 1935 and were still in use when she died in 1962.0 -
My favourite sheets are Egyptian cotton from John Lewis. They are expensive but feel lovely. I have a fitted one on the bottom and a flat one on top under my duvet.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Another vote for John Lewis Egyptian cotton sheets. I got mine about 12 years ago and they have been in regular use ever since. They have actually improved with use and have become beautifully soft with no bobbling or wearing thin. I only use flat sheets as you can switch them about and they are easier to dry and iron, (yes I love to iron my sheets!)0 -
It's your choice of course but they're a bu**er to iron! I've got one that I use as a cover in really hot weather (so rarely). It came from Laura Ashley but don't know if they still do them.
I don't iron sheets, I spent too much time as a child watching my mother do this:). I wash them on a quick wash and put them on my Lakeland electric clothes horse. They don't need much ironing dried this way.0 -
I have just given loads of 800 count pure egyptian cotton sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases away to my local charity shop. All pure white. Too much faff and far too hot in summer and just taking up space now I am on my own. Beautiful perfect condition. 800 count pure cotton is made tightly woven cotton ply so does not wick moisture very well, not does it release heat. Most people think that high count is best, I did at one time but it is not. Also these quality cottons need to be laundered at a cool temperature, many think 60 but that is incorrect, should be 30 or 40 and then there is the ironing
These people have a fantastic reputation and wonderful products I can vouch for them. Their 800 count is very much cheaper than JL

The Banstead one isn't too far from me. I often go near when driving to Kingston in London.
I'll pop in there. I do rate house of Fraser - but these look cheaper & similar.
By the way, I love 800 TC. What charity shop lol0 -
Thirty-odd years ago I was given 2 pairs of db-size linen flat sheets by an elderly neighbour when she and her husband were down-sizing from a 3-bed house to a 1-bed flat. At the time I was a stay-at-home mum with two young children (my choice) and it wasn't easy managing on just one wage coming in, so I was very appreciative of her gift. Yes, they creased a lot and were a pig to iron but now, years later, they're soft, don't crease at all and no, I don't iron them anymore.
I don't know how long she had had them but I know she didn't wash them herself and had them professionally laundered and ironed - you can still just see the laundry mark in the corners.
I'm still using them along with Egyptian cotton sheets for summer and brushed cotton for winter. Flat, not fitted.
I can also remember DM turning sheets sides to middle; recently I was intending to do this with a pair of old sheets that had seen better days but, as there were more threadbare bits than "good" material, I settled for cutting them up and hemming the cut edges to make 4 cot-size sheets that I gave to DDiL for the twin DGSs. Old habits die hard.Be kind to others and to yourself too.0 -
But of course, ievakotryna, as the company you've [STRIKE]advertised[/STRIKE] mentioned are based in Lithuania there's a 20 euro delivery fee. :whistle:0

I buy my bedding from Mitrelinen which supplies lots of hotels and you don't need to buy more than one sheet as they have different prices for one or for ten. I recommend their duvets as well and towels. It's in Wales and delivery is really quick. And no I don't work for them just like their products and they are very reasonably priced.0
