TTD Crisps - Sharp Practice at Sainsburys?

Sainsburys in Bromley offer samples today of their Taste The Difference Root Vegetable Crisps. Very nice they are too, so I went to buy some.
There is an offer on, 2 bags for £1.80, on "all varieties" of their TTD crisps, so I included one bag of the root vegetable variety, along with another kind, in my basket.
Needless to say, the offer didn't boot in, so I went back to the aisle to check what had gone wrong. The price label for the vegetable crisps was covered up by a marketing label indicating that these crisps had won an award. The normal price for them is £1.85 and they clearly were not part of the "2 for £1.80" offer.
CS kindly refunded me as if I had been charged £1.80, but I'd be interested if other branches have the £1.85 label covered up, enticing unsuspecting shoppers into making the same "mistake" as I did.

I get this frequently - you think something is BOGOF or on offer but it is only certain flavours. I once had quite a row with the woman on the magazine till at a large Tesco because they had the drinks on the wrong place on the shelf (lots out of place) which made them appear to be on offer when they rang up at full price. Customer services did refund after I moaned a bit. It may have been a genuine mistake, but it does make you think.

Speaking as someone who used to work in a supermarket, these are just mistakes and human error. I think the amount of people who don't read the signs properly and then moan are so annoying that trying to scam people in this way wouldn't be worth it at all.

Busy people doing their shopping, should not have to read the small print when much larger signs proclaim a bargain.

This used to be a regular occurrence in my local Morrisons and I got caught out several times. I wasnt the only one at cs complaining. Thankfully it seems to happen less now, or else Im just more aware of it.

This does happen quite often to me.

I leave the goods and get a refund and make sure that they change the shelves.

I don't have the best eye sight in the world, so when I see a promotional sign right in front of an item and it looks like it matches I take it, and when I find that someone has put it in the wrong place it really annoys me.

I don't think it is sharp practice, just sloppiness.
  • I also used to work in a supermarket stacking shelves on night shift. When a particular product was sold out we would turn the ticket round or leave the shelf space blank. However these days every supermarket I go to (T, M & S) just fill the gap with nearby stock to make the sheves look full. It's a right royal pain in the !!!!, and sheer laziness if you ask me.

I always check the shelf edge label (even removing the large advertising stickers must to the consternation of nearby shop workers) to check the items I want to buy are included in the offer.

    Cheers

  • This happens a lot in Sainsburys.I wouldn't mind if thery refunded and let you keep the goods - like Tesco do.I resent being overcharged *and* doing their work for them when I point out their mistake.Grrr....
