Can i claim compensation??????

Hi,

Don't know whether anyone can help me or not? I took a loan out a few years ago and finally paid it off in December. I have now found out that the company haven't settled it on my credit report and had the nerve to default me 2 days AFTER i paid it off. This has been on my report for 9 months longer than it should have been and shown that it is defaulted when in fact it is settled. I know the company can request that it is changed, but can i seak compensation for the months they have affected my credit and the fact that i have been rejected for accounts and credit when if it was corrected in the 1st place i would have been accepted?

Sorry i've gone on a bit, but the company have really got to me!!!!!

The only way that you could do this is if you can quantify your losses, which I doubt that you would be able to do.

What does that mean? Quantify my losses? Sorry being a bit blonde.

You need to be able to give the actual amount that you have lost as a result of the error.

I had the same problem with a catalogue (that I had never used!), and it took eighteen months for them to remove the default (it should not take nearly this long). Even though I had been turned down for credit in the meantime, it was impossible to put a specific amount of the amount that I was out of pocket as a result of their mistake.

    Don't worry, I'm permanently blonde! x

Whether you defaulted or not depends on the timing, surely ... if you were in serious arrears and eventually paid up, they may well have defaulted you before the cheque payment (if it was a cheque payment) cleared against your account.

I think you are going to struggle to demonstrate any financial loss and hence to get anything other than token compensation.
