Self Employed Abroad - Help

:hello: Hi folks, bare with me I will try to keep this short and hopefully clear..

I am 31 currently training horses in France for 5 months, then we will take the horses to Germany to be part of a new Equine theatre in Munich for min 1 year (I am hoping for 2-4 years)

My boss has made it clear they want me self employed. I am not looking for pros and cons, this is the way it is.

So I am English, but I have been living mainly in Spain for the past 12 years.

I have an English address, bank account and NI number but I havent declared taxes to the UK since 2005.

I also have a Spanish bank account , NI and Social Security number.

Eventally I want to return to Spain to settle down and grow old, I have no intention of returning to England on a long term basis.

My questions are....
Should I register myself to the UK or Spain?
What information do I need to invoice my boss? Would I get away with a NI number?

Apoligies, I had more questions but I have googled so much this evening my head is spinning :wall:

You need to ask the state that you are working in. Being self-employed doesn't mean that you don't have responsibilities to the country you live in at the time you earn the money. You need to ascertain what their expectations are and comply with them. If you have not lived in the UK for so long, you would now fail the habitual residency test and so would not be able to rely on the state for anything - so there is little point in paying taxes in the UK, even if that is possible.

"The way it is" depends on what the law of the country you are working in is - your boss gets no say in the matter. If your status does not qualify as self-employed in that country, then you will not be self-employed.

You will need to speck to an accountant, as diffrent countries will have diffrent requirments. I have a vague recolection that if you are self empoyed in Germany you need to register fortax from day one. Either way employ an accountant.
