Finding a decent MSE style facial skincare regime to rival the effect of some of the most expensive brands has taken me years and and because of that I thought I'd share it. I'd really like to hear everyone else's regimes too as this is a particular interest for me. I thought it might also help give others a good place to start.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet (nothing came up in a search of MSE) but there's a little known brand I've found called The Ordinary and their products are amazing. They start at £3.90 and go up to £14.90 with foundations costing between £5.70 & £5.90. They do charge p&p but if you go in with a friend or three the cost will be negligible.

The products are ultra professional and the type you'd find in high end salons. I use the serum foundation every day - there's two types, full cover and medium cover. The medium cover works well for me and I set it with translucent powder so it lasts all day.

Something else I've been using for a while now and really impressed with is the Avon facial oil. It is a bit more expensive but it lasts forever as I only use three drops of it per day.

I use Aldi's facial serum, witch hazel as a toner and Clinique bar soap as a cleanser. I know Clinique is expensive but a bar of soap lasts me best part of a year so it works out at about £1 a month.

With all the above products, my skin looks smooth, clear, glowing and fresh - and I'm 50 years old. All the products absorb well which is a must for me because I really don't like the thick, sticky gloopy products that sit on top of your skin.

I'm on a no-spend too, I'm ok with it this time. Although I did have to part with a small fortune at the dentists today.

Which of the products have you tried, out of interest? I want to try more but it'll have to wait. Some of the products I've no idea how to use because they're salon type of things.

I've used the Natural Moisturising Factors and the Niacinamide and Zinc serum. The Natural Moisturising Factors is a great basic moisturiser, and the Niacinamide was great at reducing blemishes on my skin.

On The Ordinary's website, they have instructions on how to use each product and at what step in your routine to use it :)

I've been using some of The Ordinary products for about 3 months and my skin is probably the best it's ever been. I'm currently using Buffet serum in the morning, hyaluronic acid at night and a moisturiser. As I use up other products I'll try others from them. Very good value.

I bought directly from their website - quick delivery.

Where are you all ordering your Ordinary products from? I am nearing the end of my bottle of Clinique Clarifying lotion and want to compare it to the Ordinary Glycolic 7% toner but i cant find it in stock anywhere.

I have used Buffet , really good serum , in my opinion rivals Protect and Perfect etc , at a lot less cost
I use Advanced Retinoid 2%,Hyaluronic Acid also. As someone posted there is a really good chart on Victoria Health detailing compatible products.
Would love to order the foundation but very reluctant as it's so difficult to judge shades online
I also use their primer, same texture as Smashbox
