Lidl & Aldi misleading "use-by" dates

Well jplevene if you think it's a problem of mass poisoning of customers, get the local trading standards or food authority in, instead if being a keyboard warrior ranting on here.
I am happy buying my friuit and veg at both stores. Any problems I have noticed I brought to the attention of the duty store manager and it has been removed and I been given an apology.
So I have been more proactive than you about this haven't I.
Ohh!! The encryption is easy once you know.
For example 2406.
First two digits are the week number. Look around other products to get the current week.
Second 2 digits are the day it should be taken of sheilf or used.
So 06 is Saturday, as date code runs from Monday to Sunday.
I've known the coding system for years plus it has been mentioned on these forums many times even by me.The more I live, the more I learn.

I do wonder about (what shall we call it?)... the tendency to over-generalise on the Internet.
The issue being that the over-generaliser never knows when s/he is going to come across posters who are more knowledgeable about a topic and are therefore somewhat skeptical about the over-generalised claims.
In this case, there are several obvious issues for those who know:-
- Unprocessed Fruit & Veg does not require a use by date, whether it's sold in a sealed bag or not.
- Whilst most F&V in Aldi is in sealed bags with an encoded sell-by date, probably getting on for half of Lidl produce is sold loose.
- I've never seen widespread issues with produce in L or A, so that points (at best) to a local problem, which the OP should take up with store management.
- The OP now says that it isn't Fruit & Veg s/he is concerned about, which precludes the issue being encoded sell-by dates, since other types of produce do require a legible use by date, and both L & A have these.0 -
Cornucopia point taken.
Then it's bad case of stock not being rotated correctly.
I have 3 lidl's and 2 Aldi's in my town. Thier stock rotation is brilliant.
Seem to be a bad local management issue which needs looking into.
OP complain to Head Office.
Gets no better then call in trading standards or food agency.
After getting a nice fine, their minds tend to clear alot I find. The more I live, the more I learn.

Go to "Guidance on the application of date labels to food" with a DEFRA link to the regulation that states the opposite. Yes it is contradictory to what the page said (welcome to government web pages).
It is still a criminal offence to sell food past its sell by date, and I have experienced it at Lidl and Aldi numerous times now.
!
I just wanted to mention that sell by dates are nothing to do with food safety and are days such as the day after Valentines day for roses and chocolates. The day after Fathers Day for presents etc.Christmas Day for cards and wrapping paper etc.
Use by will be on high risk food such as cooked meat, pork pie etc.
Best before will be on biscuits, cake etc0 -
What was it you bought? What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
