How to reclaim overpaid tax?

I have searched the net to no avail !! and trust an expert on here will guide me in the right direction.
Stopped working - my last 2 pay slips apr may have a total of 660 tax deducted; Claire at hmrc says my ex employer will refund tax - employer says hmrc will?
I will not be receiving any taxable income for the rest of this tax year - do I have to wait util Apr 18 before I can reclaim the 660? or is there some way to get hmrc to pay me it now? Many thanks in anticipation of anyone's help with this

Use form P50, or its online equivalent if you have a Gateway ID already.
