Edf - HUGE waiting list for new credit/smart meters

I bought a flat at the end of last year which uses an pre-pay electricity meter. I wasn't too worried about that as I assumed I could just switch to a credit one, but that seems to be a near impossible task!

I'm currently with Edf who tell me that because of the government's commitment to installing everyone with a smart meter by 2020, they're no longer putting in new credit meters, so it would need to be a smart one. However due to what seems like a catastrophic lack of engineers in my area (West Sussex) they can't tell me when it will be installed. It's been three months and still no word - when I call they can't tell me when the situation will improve.

As far as I can tell, moving to another supplier won't help as many won't install new meters until you have been with them for several months. or are in a similar boat to Edf?

Is anyone else in the same boat? It's so frustrating!

I think you have got your wires crossed somewhere.

You need to be with EDF for months before they will consider changing your meter.
There's no such time time with most other suppliers; you simply have to pass their credit check and possibly they will ask for a security deposit (returnable after 12 months)

Not months. Just 28 days before you can apply.
