Can you get a mortgage on a house built in 1860's

Options
Hi

Just a quick question we need answering. We have just had an offer accepted on a house. It was built in the 1860's. We recently pulled out of buying a different property due to seller not responding. We are ahead in our purchase so lucky to find a house we can rent before we buy.
The only question we have in the back of our minds is at some point we are sure our mortgage advisor said you cannot get a mortgage on a house built before 1900.. Or could this just be the Nationwide?
The house isn't listed.

It seems a long time until Tuesday and need some advice. Thanks

    Perfectly possible.

It will of course be subject to valuation. A broker would be a good place to start.

My house is listed and built 1700. No problems whatsoever getting the mortgage.

The age of the property has no relevence for mortgage purposes.

We have seen and had two mortgages approved but sadly each time the sellers have let us down.
So last night after meeting owners and so on we where just worrying. Thank you both and have a super duper and wonderful bank holiday Monday.

Well, not strictly 100% true as some mortgage lenders do have a cut off. Also some lenders will insist on additional reports if the house is of a certain age, understandably.

However an 1860's house shouldn't prove difficult to mortgage.

My place was built around that time and we had no bother getting a mortgage (we are currently with YBS). Just to add, I recently renewed our home insurance and did the form online, was about to click 'pay' and then noticed a thing saying you can't do it online if you don't meet these certain conditions...having a listed building was one of them. It was fine, I just had to do it over the phone and pay slightly more, but just make sure your insurer knows you live in a listed building!
