Age discrimination is unlawful. That means an employer cannot advertise nor recruit either directly or indirectly on the basis of someone's age. So asking for mature etc is wrong and they can be fined heavily for it. Any reputable company will know this and will not engage in this kind of unlawful activity.
  • Do not be duped by the company. It seems that they have sent out a lot of offers and have got people to spend their own hard earned money for the companys benefit. They certainly went to a lot of trouble. Give it a wide berth.

Don't feel stupid if you have been duped. Take it on board and move on.
  • Same here, I had the email. From the off I wasn't overly happy about it but due to my work history as an investigator it didn't seem unusual to receive this message. I did some background checks on the company and managed to turn up very little. Google street view showed the address to be a residential property, again nothing unusual. There is a known detective in the Newcastle area by the same name.

They were not a particularly reliable company with no phone access, limited live chat and no email replies. The details supplied to "Investigate" were amateur, to say the least. In the end I took the gamble knowing that it may come to nothing and I may be out of pocket. It certainly looks the case that either we have been duped or they were a start up trying to hit the ground running with nothing to back them up. In the end it cost me less than £100 but we live and learn.
  • I stupidly made the mistake of their offer as I have done PI work in the past and was in process of my full time job finishing. So in all I've lost about £100 as well.
Both this company and the Deep-search site they say to use as part of the ' initial' case study no longer seem to have their websites up and as the bank say "you paid willingly by transfer so they can't do anything about the loss"

Oh well you live and you learn!

The Armed Forces certainly get away with it.

The age aspect of the Equality Act 2010 specifies that it does not apply to the Armed Forces.

I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
