Sorry if this has been brought up before
I am having an issue at work regarding pay, last year there was 3 regions in scotland where i work but there were all joined together to save money apprently, anyways when they were joined up, it became very clear very quickly that that one area was recieving £1.50 an hour more than the other 2 for doing the same job,
We have asked for a reason for this and was told its because it cost more money to live there, however after checking the cost of living compared to where i stay its costing more to stay where i do than the other area, after saying to my manager about this, i was told i was wrong even though i had facts backing it up,
Anyways me and my work colleges are wanting a pay rise as there has been none in the last 5 years apart fro when our wages caught up with the min wage requirements, we were always atleast 80p ahead of the rest of the company,
The problem we have now is when we say to the manager that we have had enough and are planning on finding new jobs with better pay or want transfered due to the lack of pay he pretty says go he wont be blackmailed or threatened and pretty much states where the door is,
Is there anything we can do as its becoming increasing difficult to deal with this company and the work load is increasing but no wage rise to follow suite,
Many thanks in advance

Yes, they can pay people differently for doing the same job. They can pay the guy standing next to you twice as much as you if they want to. They don't have to justify it.
There's also no onus on them to preserve your differentials if they decide not to.
If you keep threatening to resign and then don't when they say "go on then" then they are not going to take you seriously. Either they think they can easily replace you, or they don't. The only way to find out is to actually resign and see if they try to keep you. If you think you can get a job with more money, or a better job for the same money, this is the path to take. If you can't get a better job for the same money, then that is why they won't increase your pay.0 -

You've already answered your own question..your not happy with the pay, manager has said "ok theres the door".
Pretty clear your not valued as an employee and they really couldn't care if you or someone else sits in the seat doing the job.0 -
It may also be that the regional pay rates are company policy and your manager has no discretion to increase them - that was the case in my last company. In which case trying to blackmail him, as you've already seen, will be counterproductive as all you've done is put his back up.
I think your choices now are probably limited to put up with it or leave - you've possibly already burned too many bridges to backtrack to a mire conciliatory request to transfer.
What will probably happen is the people on higher pay stay on it until the rest of you catch up. And while I understand the frustration of no pay rise for years, welcome to the world of many of us at the moment. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

I don't think it's necessarily about not being valued, but no sensible employer will be bullied and blackmailed into giving somebody a payrise, and that is exactly what the OP is trying to do.0 -
Were not trying to blackmail him or bullie him, when we mention it he claims thats what were are doing, considering all matters aside hes already stated to us that we do the most work and make the most money however cant justify paying more, i think its unfair,
He knows understaffed and struggling with the work load however keeps piling it on, i just though fair pay would be in order thats all0 -
k it's unfair - so what?
They can pay you to work all day and pay me 10 times that to sit on my backside and do nothing.
Life is unfair. You can stay or you can go.0 -
As long as you are being paid the living wage, and pay differences are not based on gender differences, you are being paid fairly though. That's how it is. "Fair" in employment means "legally fair". Any other interpretation of "fair" is for the playgroundWere not trying to blackmail him or bullie him, when we mention it he claims thats what were are doing, considering all matters aside hes already stated to us that we do the most work and make the most money however cant justify paying more, i think its unfair,

Despite being told that there is no pay rise coming, you continue to raise it and tell your manager you'll get another job if you don't get a pay rise - that is the blackmail. And he's told you he can't give it to you, it's out of his control, so get another job if that's how you feel. Fair enough. Your bluff was called. Now you have to decide whether to follow through. Get another job and the employer might make a counter offer to you. And maybe they won't. 0 -
The obvious route to raising this would be through your union, no? Not moaning at your manage, who probably has no discretion to do anything about this.Signature removed for peace of mind0
