Hi Folks
Can someone recommend an online fitness trainer for a male in his later 40s who has done next to none fitness training in his life !! He is not overweight but just wants to gain muscle strength etc and perhaps a kilo or two or weight. He would also like advice of what to eat etc.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thank You.

You need to be more specific on what you want
Are you looking for muscle growth?
Are you looking for fat loss?
Do you want endurance/strength?
There are different coaches out there but they train people in different ways for different purposes.
You can grow muscle and lose fat to a certain extent in beginners but they are kinda mutually exclusive at some point you need to pick. It's also difficult to gain strength and endurance at the same time. It can be done but never as well as focusing on one or the other.
The diet is dependent on the training needed to be done0 -
Hi
Thanks for you reply.
The requirement is for muscle strength and growth.0 -
Okay,
Are you familiar the deadlift, bench press, squat, overhead press? If not you will need to learn them safely. You will need a personal trainer for a while to teach you them as I don't think online will help with that.
Do you have any injuries? Machines may need to be substituted although they are not as good.
Diet is number one so for muscle gain as well as fat loss you need plenty of protein and enough carbohydrates to fuel your workouts. Don't be swayed by this low carb rubbish, they don't make you fat calories are the overriding principle
You can lose fat and gain muscle at the start no problem so what I would do is run a small calorie deficit for maybe 6 months while gaining strength on those lifts. Then after that you will have to evaluate where you are, do you want more fat loss or more muscle if that makes sense.
muscleforlife is good and I think they do coaching now as well.0 -

Hi Folks
Many thank for your replies.
I'm thinking of getting a personal trainer, but they seem to be so expensive, around £20 per hour. So, if I wanted 3 hours a week it would cost me £90, which I definitely cannot afford !!0
