Election 2017: What jobs do UK workers actually do?

People referring to the 'Baby Boomer' generation ,in a derogatory manner, paint a picture of most people born at that time as now wealthy with lots of money to splash about, but that is not the case.
Where we live ,ignoring the local authority estates, there are estates, like ours, where people are 'comfortable' in that they can pay bills, own or nearly own a modest semi or bungalow and have some savings to enhance their pension income, but only because they have been 'careful' in the past. No near neighbour has had a new car for the last 5 years or so. (Oh, I forgot the young couple renting the house across from us; two new cars and one expensive)0 -

agree baby boomers arent awash with cash. but generally are well-off and comfortable but certainly not rich.
compared to many young people who still waste money away and have no savings to speak off - tbh it serves them right if they are to financially suffer in the future.0 -
I saw this on a flick through the threads and thought it would be an interesting debate on actual jobs. Disappointing.
For my ha'penny worth, we pay tax all through our lives, a massive proportion of our earnings go on tax, not just income tax, national insurance, council tax but VAT and duty on fuel and alcohol and cigarettes. Inheritance tax was brought in to tax the super-wealthy, labour want to charge 40% inheritance tax on estates greater than £425K. Maybe in the north that is a massive amount, but in the south that is not far off a normal house. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
