Is it Better to Buy a Tablet & PC Gear at Amazon or John Lewis?

I've recently been scouting for PC monitors and a Surface Pro 4 at John Lewis, Currys and Amazon. The general feedback is that JL is definitely better than Currys, often highly recommended by those sharing their opinion. If the prices are all the same then it's a no brainer, but what if Amazon is much cheaper than JL … does anyone know if buying a pricey tablet or PC (rather than cheaper peripherals) through an Amazon vendor is equally as reliable as JL?
JL didn't have the monitors I wanted, so that was an easy decision to go ahead with Amazon. The package arrived today, the delivery guy just left it at the front door, and it was a little concerning whether much care had been taken to place the box the right way up, or if any extra effort had been taken to prevent the box/contents from being knocked about. Would a JL deliveryman wait for the door to be answered and actually get the packaged 'signed off', or do they just drop it off too?
It's strange. I made 2 (Prime) orders yesterday. When they were delivered, the monitors were just left there without waiting for the door to be answered. But the other delivery for simple foodstuff was properly handed over. Does it just depend on the differing attitudes of the delivery person?
The SP4 Tablet is about 100 pounds cheaper at Amazon compared to JL. The seller has good reviews/ratings. Would you go with Amazon and save a 100 quid or does the supposed peace of mind from JL really make that much of a difference?

John Lewis has the piece of mind of a 2 year warranty.
John Lewis couriers do just leave on your doorstep unfortunately, they left an iPad Pro on mine.
Personally I would always go through JL for their after sales care and warranty.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. John Lewis every time( 2yr Guarantee electrical items).
Good luck if anything goes wrong with your equipment, especially from an Amazon seller.
I would not buy anything electrical from Amazon, from experience, too much to go wrong. You would have the hassle of posting & packaging back to them.
I only ever buy small consumable items from Amazon on occasion, less hassle nothing to go wrong.

In my experience, Amazon have pretty decent customer services, refunds I've had have sometimes been granted even before I've sent back the faulty item (in excess of £50 and even £100), the only hassle comes from having to wait in for a delivery or failed delivery. I think they outsource this to different people or companies depending on the warehouse the items come from, some are better than others, some are thieves, some are very helpful and chatty, some are in a major hurry and could give the Duracell bunny a run for it's money.
John Lewis are slower when it comes to delivery- days later rather than 1-2 days from Amazon (when they do deliver on time). Yes they have a bricks and mortar store but they can cost more and wont match online prices. They do have a pretty straightforward exchange or refund process, but it really depends on what your needs are.
If you are unsure about the item and want to test-drive and see if it's suitable and matches what it says on the tin; John Lewis would be my first choice. If it's easy ordering and the lower prices and you know what your getting and don't live near me (I always am at the end of a delivery persons list for some reason so get shoved on to the next day and the next...) go with Amazon.0
