"Clear" energy saving lamp bulbs

Are there any "clear" energy saving lamp bulbs available rather than "pearl". We have a number of lamp fittings that look very ugly with the normal energy saver. I suspect there are not which means I suppose I will have to stock up on clear candle bulbs before they become unavailable.

If the candle bulbs we had were clear megaman they would look ugly as you would be able to to see the electronics in them. I also have some r63 spots and they are the same

Its the coating on the inside of a low energy bulb that fluoresces (emits light) when its switched on. Thus no coating no light.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Like Economiser, I have a few light fittings that are just not suitable for current Low Energy bulbs, athough the one's I have, plus junking the Tumble Drier, cut bills by 30%
Whilst looking for 3 GU10 bulbs to replace those in a bathroom that threatened to burn the house down, I found LED bulbs suitable for standard fittings at energysaverlamps.co.uk - it's early days for this technology, but worth keeping an eye on
The standard GU10's which got too hot for comfort and burned 50watts each, have been replaced with 21LED bulbs that run quite cool and use only 1.5watts each, from onestopledshop.co.uk - Thats what I call low energy
I suspect that what we call Low Energy Bulbs today, will be considered wasteful inside 2 years

I saw some in IKEA today which seemed to be a bulb within a bulb. Not clear but a lot better than your normal energy saver. Bit expensive though.

I agree with dogshome that LED's are the future but until then, as the lamp fittings in question are not used that much and our energy savings would be minimal, I think I will stock up on tungsten bulbs whilst they are still around, just in case.

I think its some time of yet before LED are a good replacement, they are okay for lighting spots up or features but not for a direct replacement for a room
