Compression Stockings on Prescription

I wear compression stockings for my varicose veins and until recently used to get them on prescription. Lat week I was told by my doctor they are no longer available on prescription yet all the information I can find seems to contradict this.
Before I go back to my GP I would like to know if anyone can point me towards some definitive information please as they are really expensive to buy.

This suggests they are available on prescription, but it might be area-specific

Are you looking at the kind of stocking people use on long flights?
The compression stockings my Mum had on prescription were in a completely different league to these. I doubt that flight stockings would have been of any use to her.0 -
