Tax refund time

Does anybody have any experience or knowledge of how long it should take for HMRC bank transfers ?
I submitted a P55 a few weeks ago and was pleased to receive a positive reply about two weeks later saying they were paying into my bank account as requested. It has now been 10 days and there's no sign of the money, is this normal, should I be worried, or do they do payment runs at the end of the month as a company would ?
I know it's lazy asking on here but I can't face the wait on the phone to find out from HMRC.
PS. I have checked the account number and sort code I submitted, several times!

Ring them at 08.00 or slightly before, should get through very quickly.
In my experience a few weeks is about right but ring them and check if you are concerned.0 -
HMRC don't make repayments by bank transfer in this way unless you are completing self assessment returns.
A repayment of the type you describe is paid by sending a cheque to the bank for the bank to credit to your account.
Had you not asked for the refund to be sent to the bank you would probably have received an invite (on the calculation letter) to go onto your personal tax account and provide bank details so the repayment could be sent by bank transfer.0 -

This explains my experience.
For the first time in years my wife did not have to do a self assessment return. I was still required to do one for some reason even though my affairs are simpler (neither of us has any earned income but my wife has a little NHS pension and a small annuity).
My P55 tax refund came through as cleared funds whereas my wife's arrived a few days later showing on the account as a cheque deposit and took a further week to clear.0 -
I find HMRC totally confusing - with different depts. processing different parts of the tax return. I received a tax rebate of £4k 1 month after submitting my tax return. There is still a further £350 outstanding and 6 months later my accountant is still chasing it.0
