On a side note I was rather upset that the email I sent to my boss to explain my absence (after calling in earlier) was forwarded onto a couple of other members of staff. Surely this should have remained a private matter?

Well it depends who he sent it to.

Every tom !!!! and Harry in the office, no.

A supervisor/team leader who would need to change the workload to accommodate? Maybe.

The email was explaining his absence - presumably mentioning his depression. All a supervisor would have to know is that he wouldn't be in; not why he wouldn't be in.

The email contained certain info about my medical history that I would have preferred to remain confidential.

One of the people the email went to was the office administrator who would arrange wages etc but all she would need to know too is that I had departed.

I can only assume that my reason for leaving will also be shared with the other members of staff including the 3 at the satellite base I worked at.

To be honest, as you had only been there 3 weeks I don't think other staff would be too interested in your medical history. I can understand you not wanting your medical history made public, but at least it wasn't a STI!

Word does tend to get around, regardless of anything official

Assuming from your post that it was sent to mostly relevant people and probably wasn't with Malintent, I'm not sure why it's that important overall.

As has been said, you've barely been there. It probably won't impact much

To answer my original question I had a wage paid into my bank account today. The grand total I was paid was £571. All this to cover 3 weeks work minus 1.5 days.(100 hours in total) According to The Gov.uk site I would be owe 13.5 hours holiday pay too so looks like I have been short changed. Until I get a payslip sent to me I won't be sure though.

EDIT: I emailed them to query this and received this reply -

If I take into account the time taken to train you and that we now need to invest in advertising, recruiting and training again, we are heavily out of pocket!"

That is perhaps suggesting to me that he has deliberately withheld some money from me. You can't lawfully do that surely.

I dont believe they can do that lawfully but are you going to pay to take them to court? May cost more than you've lost, in money and time.

It could be a small claims court rather than an employment tribunal so cheaper plus you can claim back the court fees anyway. The OP has an acknowledgement in writing that he wasn't paid for his accrued holiday so it's a pretty open and shut case, they'd probably back down the minute the court documents are served.

Oh for goodness sake! They employed you and they sacked you - it's your fault because!!!!

I really don't see how they can penalise you for their choices! They need to suck it up and get over it!
