Manage my own DMP

I started my DMP with Stepchange back in November, all set up and paying £457 a month, most companies have issued Defaults. Halifax amongst others are digging their heels in, still ringing me several times a day. I don't pick up, I have written several times explaining my situation and asking them to contact me by letter, they also still adding interest and charges monthly so my debt with them is rising.
i wish I hadn't rushed into a DMP so quickly and had given myself some breathing space, I panicked as I am sure many do. I'm now ready to go it alone. I have informed Stepchange and cancelled my DMP and intend to give myself the chance to build up some kind of emergency savings, maybe for three months. I have letters ready to go to my creditors requesting bank details etc.
I'm a bit nervous about a CCJ, especially before the legislation changes later in the year but to be honest I never want credit again so if they register CCJs against me its not really the end of the world (although I will probably have a bit of a cry!) and they'll disappear eventually.
Not sure why I am posting really, just that there doesn't seem to be much on the board about those going it alone and how its working.
Did you go it alone? How did you find it getting it all set up? Did you leave a gap between starting payments again?

Also in the debt free diaries you will find quite a lot of people going through self-managed DMP, as well as those using free charities and services, so you would be in good company there :-)0
