Help - mortgage offer declined

Just looking for some reassurance really... we are first time buyers who have a 10% deposit. We got a DIP from Halifax and a couple of months later have had an offer accepted on a house that is way under the amount that Halifax were willing to lend us (by 70k or so). Met with our mortgage advisor a few days ago and decided to apply with Nationwide as they have the best deal at the moment. I was completely honest about 5 late payments that I've had on a credit card and a store card over the years which is just down to forgetfulness. Our mortgage advisor said it shouldn't be an issue at all and both mine and my partners credit scores are good. However, we found today that our offer has been declined 
I kind of saw it coming and our mortgage advisor has said not to worry. We have now had a DIP from Natwest and have applied with them, but I'm so worried we will get declined again. We didn't even get a DIP from Nationwide so I don't know if the DIP from Natwest is a good sign for now??
