Ho long until first wage?

Options
What is the maximum time you have to wait before getting your first wage? I'm guessing it's four weeks? I started work last Monday 15th just wondering I haven't received my contract yet. Anyway, should I get paid in 4 weeks time, or could it be longer?

It could be longer, for instance if your company pays at the end of the month but has a payroll cut off date in the middle of the month you might not get paid until the end of June. The only way to find out for sure is to ask. If you're suffering a cash flow problem you might be able to ask for an advance of wages.

I waited two months to get my first wages (when I was working). The simple reason was the paper work wasn't sent to HR dept on time and manager's holidays. It was good receiving double amount.

about 6 or 7 weeks missing cut-off date.

Bank of mom and dad saved the day, paid back with 0% interest of course.
  • 6 weeks quite a few times, increasing common/worse in the last 2 years I'd say.

Nobody thinks anymore to co ordinate new starters with payroll.

The no quibble were always most certainly the weekly paid jobs.

It depends entirely on when the payroll system 'closes' to enable HR or finance to run the payroll in order to get people paid on time. Typically that will be a couple of weeks before the pay date. That can mean waiting about 6 weeks for your first pay from a new employer.

    you need to ask for
    the pay period
the pay day for that priod.
any cutoff dates for time sheets and expenses.

could be as much as 2 months for monthly in arrears with a month in hand.
