Wedding transport - taxi firm?

I almost choked on my lunch when I got a quote of £1800 to hire 3 Range Rovers and a Defender as wedding transport.

Unfortunately we can't ask friends/family to drive us for various reasons and I can't see that changing nearer the time. We'll need transport for the entire wedding party; potentially 12 people split across three vehicles. I still want to do the drive with my Dad, so groom & groomsmen in one vehicle, bridesmaids in a second, then Dad and I in a third.

I was debating asking a local taxi firm... I'd just request that they drove slower than normal as they fly around the country lanes. :rotfl: I'm not bothered about how the cars (minibus?!) would look in photos etc.

Has anybody used a bog standard taxi firm? Any other MSE ideas?

We did in Oxford - worked a charm.
Mind, we married in a college chapel & walked to the Hall for food.

Beloved Uncle sorted a charabanc and operated a Guests Staging area then freighted 30 folk in & out, for which there aren't enough thanks in the world.

Find a classic car nut & croon so you have one car for wedding photo purposes. Do a Cerys & find a wedding tractor? (Not sure if you're in town or country, but it's fun to have one vehicle for photo opportunities & if that's a cherry picker, or baler, or off duty portable forge, or even a vintage fire engine [dads go to starting lengths for daughters for Prom] what of it? Also, this being the age of eBay it may pay to buy an eyecatching thing with 3 months MOT, get Dad to coax it carefully to the Church for photos, be shot mercilessly then sell it [hopefully for what you paid for it or even at a profit] after.)

As for taxis, they hurtle as they've money to earn - if you have them contracted for the day, they have less need to hurtle.

All the very best for a grand day & a long & happy marriage!

For that money I think you'd be able to

    Stashbuster - 2014 98/100 - 2015 175/200 - 2016 501 / 500 2017 - 200 / 500 2018 3 / 500

    Sorry premature posting. Haha

I was looking at hiring one of these for my mother for a birthday / Christmas prezzie as she complains that she has too much stuff. They also do weddings. For the money you've been quoted you could hire three camper vans for 5 days each. That isn't counting all the fuel required. But personally I'd prefer the look of one of these rather than a Range Rover.

Ps I have nothing to do with the company other than I met them once at an event promoting their wares and they gave me a postcard and a cloth shopping bag.

I wouldn't have anything against a taxi transport. But if you and your fella fancied a night away after the wedding you could maybe consider one of these instead. (If you're still wanting one statement vehicle).

    I couldn't care less about a statement car :p

The Range Rovers (and a Defender for the groom's party) were a balance between practical and comfortable. We're getting married in March on the tops and wanted to have our wedding photos taken up on the moors. Who knows what the weather will do :rotfl:

I've done some more research and actually the prices we were quoted aren't excessive; £300-400 per vehicle seems to be the standard rate and I guess most people use one car so it's not so bad. My issue is that we want three separate groups transporting and our wedding party is too big!

Bride & Father Of Bride - this is very important to me and I'd rather pay for an extra car than give up that time with just the two of us (Dad lives abroad)
4 bridesmaids & mother of bride
    4 groomsmen & groom

I'm half tempted to ask the local Range Rover dealership, actually.... :D
