Yes they're very good for cookery books and kids books in particular. The little red booklet comes through the door once a month and we frequently buy a few. Also have very good deals on say 10 of somebody's books, or a theme, for a tenner. (Like 10 Ian Rankins, or all the Morse's). They work by buying up and selling off remaindered runs so they wont usually be the latest releases. We've been using them on and off for many years and never had a problem.

Have you been able to see the books? Are there recipes in there that inspire you to cook? If not, I'd avoid.

I have an old Mrs Beeton (The New Edition; 1906 :rotfl: ). It looks lovely on the shelf, but the recipes are pants, so that's where it stays

Take a look at this thread - I want a basic cook book for tried and tested book recommendations.

I'd recommend Delia Smaith's Complete Cookery Course, or Jamie Oliver's Cook. You cold always try your library and then buy what you like.

The best place to buy cookery books is a charity shop. I recently purchased Delia Smith's One is Fun for 50p as well as buying her Summer and Winter collections from various other shops and they have never cost more than £1.50. Jamie Oliver can often be found in the charity shop too - you just need to keep your eyes peeled.
