Santander product change - help.

We are coming to the end of our current deal of 1.59% on our two year fixed Santander mortgage, I went on-line to check for new rates and they have put it up to 4.29% with pretty much no room to manoeuvre. Albeit we have acquired a default between myself and my partner during the past two years, but I thought they do not credit check so we could get a reasonable rate.
Is there anything we can do to change this?, or have we now become a mortgage prisoner until the default drops off?.
