How important is a title?

It's clear from the posts above that the OP IS being paid for the role and IS NOT volunteering....

I think your initial response does successfully demonstrate the problem that the OP may have experienced.

Thanks everyone. I now intend to remove all mention of volunteers / volunteering from my current title as its clear people are confused and think I'm a volunteer not a salaried worker. I'm wondering now if this has been holding me back more than I realised.
