The escape from SKY TV!

Hi
We have just fallen out with SKY TV & have now finally been cut off.
We originally phoned to ask about moving on to the their broadbank/tv/phone package for £26 per month. They suggested a huge package to us which totalled £62, we said 'no, thank you', they said okay you can have it for £32 per month. (didnt think this was strange at the time as they always do that sort of thing). Anyway ofcourse they are now saying we didn't say that at all, we said £58 per month. So we have suggested that perhaps they keep their service.
So having made the great escape i find that there isnt actually much i miss, although the kids miss MTV & paramount comedy.
But finally I come to my question. Does anyone know if there is a website which tells you what free channels you get get from where? We still have the sky satellite in place & get a lot of free channels through this from,i ithink, the ASTRA satellite.
My second point is dont make deals with Sky customer services unless you get them in writing, unless you are happy to get taken for a ride.
Any advice gratefully received.

we got rid of cable when they did away with sky1 and have had a digi box ever since it does it's not bad and once we had paid the £30 to buy it that was it no more payments ..dont think that helps in your situation just wanted to let you know you have done the right thing and saved a good bit of money0

This is the Sky Freesat webpage:

"I already have digital satellite equipment - what else do I need?
All you need to get access to the free channels available on the digital satellite platform is a freesat viewing card which costs just £20."
Hope that helps!

Sorry, for hijacking the post
but does anyone knoe of any other viewing cars (with exception of freesat) that operate with Sky equipment - ie could i use a rivals or foreign card in my system to pick up alternate channels (such as sports)No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

Thank you everyone. Took a while to get back here as the broadband connection hasnt been so good since SKY fixed the HD box etc (grrrhh!) I cant understand how they get away just committing to something & then pretending they didn't. Its infuriating. Looking on the bright side i have re-discoverd BBC & found that the % of watchable TV per channel is considerable higher than the hundreds of channels of tosh which we had been concentraing on.
Thanks for everyone comments.....another happy bug.........sorry,blogger embracing the simple life0 -

This is not possible on a sky system, there are foreign networks out there
that show allot of English programs and official viewing cards
can be purchased but these are broadcast from different satellite
and will require a new and receiver to pick them up0 -

Just a quick note on this
If your a current sky subscriber and you cancel your
service, your existing card will automatically become a
freesat card and get you the free channels, so there's
no need to pay £20 for a new freesat card in that case0 -

Hi all,
We too cancelled Sky last month, having been with them for 8 years!
DH phoned them and said all he watched were the sports channels and could they do him a deal on just these channels? He also said that over the 8 years the quality of programmes has nose-dived whilst the charges have rocketed. Their reply was that he couldn't just have the sport, but could have that and something else (can't remember now) for £32. I said no as I feel this is still extortionate and so as of Sep 16th we no longer have Sky. DH is gutted as he LOVES Man Utd and sport and most matches are on Sky, but I keep telling him the £60+ we spent each month was not justified. I do feel guilty as this was his only pleasure (don't go out, drink or smoke) but £720 a year :eek:DMP starts June 2012, £38,180.
Balance June 2015 £26,046 (paid off 32%)
