written off debt

I had a debt with ulster bank which i was paying off. I have written to them on numerous occasions asking for the debt to be written off with no success. however on the 10th march they sent me a letter stating the account was considered fully paid and closed. I then stopped making payments. They then passed the debt to another company and when i questioned it they realised they had sent me the letter in error and the debt was still outstanding. I dont feel i should start paying again and wondered where i stood legally as I still have the letter stating the debt was fully repaid. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

    Hi,

I`ve moved your post to the general forum.

Can you tell us a little more about your circumstances, why, for instance, do you think ulster bank should write off your debt ?

    Is it legally enforceable ?

Have you done a CCA request for information ?

The bank have admitted an error on there part, unfortunately that is not grounds for you to simply not pay, you are still liable, mistakes do happen, and that in no way diminishes your liability for the debt i`m afraid.

Is there some other reason why you think the debt should be written off ?
