HELP - Mortgage App Stress

Deposit: 25,000
Mortgage: 189,000

our mortgage has been declined as whilst i was in hospital in March i failed to pay a credit card bill on time - i have spoken with the CC company they are going to try their best to get the mark on my credit file removed. I want to appeal the mortgage decision with NatWest as I have letters to say I was in hospital. our broker says they aren't that forgiving but on checking forums people's mortgage declines get overturned all the time. Can anyone confirm my hopes? we are going to try to appeal the decision today.

Will you pay your mortgage late if you're ever in hospital again?

  • No - this would be a direct debit.

You should set up a DD for your credit card in order to cover the minimum payment, that way you can pay more if you wish but will never miss a payment.

An appeal is 50/50 I would say based on how generous the underwriter feels and how well the appeal is presented.
