What to do when the lenders dont respond...

i am currently £5k in debt- 2 loans, one with Alliance and Leicester and one with Cahoot.

I wrote to Cahoot a couple of months ago and they sent me a form to set out my spending, i sent it back and havent heard anything back from them. I also spoke to them but they were not very helpful so i dont really want to go through that again as it was not helpful during a very stressful time.

Alliance and Leicester have also ignored my letters. their telephone manner also leaves a lot to be desired!

I want to pay them back, just in smaller installments, and to be honest (and somewhat naively i thought they would appreciate the honesty from me addressing the problem) i'm being honest with them and the reductions are not huge, just £50-£75 to both of them.

I have looked at DMP and IVA sites but i dont want to pay someone else for the debt just yet.

Can anyone help? do you think the wording of my letters isnt helping? i am being too nice??? (not sure if thats the right word but hopefully you get the idea!)

I am considering writing one last time and saying that I want something in writing from them to confirm that they are happy to reduce slightly for the short term until i get back on my feet... if anyone has a template or any suggestions for wording, that would be fantastic.

Cheers

Lou xxx

Hi Lou and welcome to dfw!

Creditors can be a bit of a pain can't they? and yes it wold make sense for them to help in the beginning!

The best suggestion I can make would be to contact one of the debt charities. They won't charge you for their help but they'll help you contact your creditors and arrange repayments. Try the cccs, their details should be on here. In the main article page is a bit about dealing with problem debts, I'd try there.

All the best and stick around, this is a great place for support and some fantastic money saving ideas!

  • Hi LJ, thanks for the post and your help. I thought the CCCS was one of those firms that charge you for their services, i wish i had known sooner. i have rang completed the questions, rang them and printed off the letters to send to my creditors so hopefully it will get me on the road...

thanks again, you are a star! :T
